After the sad demise of Dr. Mohan Dharia, he was unanimously chosen as the ‘President’ of VANARAI, by the board of Trustees, considering his dedication and devotion towards various social causes and his experience in VANARAI.

Vanarai has successfully completed 35 years of its journey, a journey made possible by People’s Movement for Green India.

A collective Movement that brings together everyone, working towards Sustainable Rural Development to create a Clean, Green & Prosperous India. Vanarai was founded by Padma Vibhushan Dr. Mohan Dharia. He started with the vision of increasing the Green cover to address the Global Challenges of the Environment from the Indian Standpoint.

Vanarai’s Journey officially dates back to 1986, however, the birth of the idea goes way back when everyone was thinking about Urbanization & Industrial development.

During this Era, Dr. Mohan Dharia started taking an inclusive approach that could bring about the overall development of the country, especially keeping in mind Rural India that comprises more than 2/3rd of the country’s Population.

The way in which Development was happening, it was necessary to equip Rural India to match that pace. In order for this to happen, Dr. Mohan Dharia made numerous sacrifices and started working at the Grassroot Level through Vanarai.

Vanarai started focusing on villages that were faced with Environmental problems like deforestation, droughts & Land degradation leading to Socio-Economic problems like poverty, Unemployment & Migration.

We took measures towards addressing the root causes of Water & Soil Conservation, Afforestation, and improving basic infrastructure. This was how numerous villages started moving towards the journey of sustainable development that resulted in reverse migration from cities to villages.

The credit of this entire journey goes to our Vanarai Parivar. I am extremely grateful to everyone; from every villager, field team, office staff, CSR partner, Government officials, well-wishers to all the board members. You all have made these 35 years possible and impactful, I foresee the future to be even more fruitful and our Vanarai Parivar getting better and stronger.

Let us make this People’s Movement even bigger to create a Clean, Green & Prosperous India.
